Oncology-Informed Integrative Bodywork

When you are living with cancer, in treatment, or finding your way in survivorship, your body is carrying a lot — physically, emotionally, and spiritually. You deserve care that understands that reality and honors every layer of what you’re walking through. At Haven Of Harmony, oncology massage and healthy breast work are fully integrated into my whole-practice approach: clinical, gentle, energy-aware, and always led by your safety and consent.
I work with people at many stages: preparing for treatment, in the middle of chemotherapy or radiation, recovering from surgery, navigating long-term side effects, or living years out from active treatment and still feeling its impact.
How I See You in Oncology Care
You are not a diagnosis or a treatment plan. You are a whole person with a history, a present, and a future you’re still moving toward. My role is to support your body and nervous system so you can move through this chapter with as much ease, comfort, and regulation as possible.
Before I touch anything, we talk. Where are you in your treatment or survivorship? What are your oncologist and other providers recommending? What are you feeling in your body day to day? What do you most want from our time together — less pain, better sleep, a place to exhale? Your answers shape everything I do.
What Your Body Tells Me
I use the same integrated assessment I bring to every session, with oncology-specific awareness guiding every choice. I body map what is comfortable and appropriate for you: your face, tongue, speech, and energy; the way your body is compensating after surgery; how your tissues respond after chemotherapy or radiation; where swelling, tightness, or numbness are asking to be included — or protected.
In Chinese medicine, the tongue, pulse, and overall presentation reveal how your body is handling stress, fatigue, fluids, and recovery. What I find there guides the full-body work I do within oncology-safe parameters.
I also pay attention to how your body is holding emotion — the bracing in your jaw and shoulders, the guardedness around surgical sites, the fatigue that feels deeper than sleep. Even when your mind doesn’t have words, your body is still telling the story, and I know how to listen without forcing anything to move faster than it’s ready for.
Oncology-Specific Training and Healthy Breast Work
Oncology massage is not just “lighter pressure.” It is a specialized approach that takes your entire medical picture into account — type and stage of cancer, treatments received or planned, ports, lymph node removals, reconstruction or no reconstruction, medications, and your current energy level.
I hold advanced training in manual lymphatic drainage, oncology massage, and healthy breast massage. For people who have experienced breast cancer — with lumpectomy, mastectomy, reconstruction, or no reconstruction — I offer oncology-informed breast and chest work that respects scars, altered sensation, and body image, always within your boundaries and with your explicit consent.
Healthy breast massage can support lymphatic flow, comfort, and connection with your chest after surgery or radiation. For some clients, that means gentle work around and away from surgical sites; for others, when you are ready, it includes direct work to the breast or chest wall itself. You set the pace, and you can change your mind at any time.
What This Work Can Support
Oncology-informed integrative bodywork can help with:
- Fatigue and depletion during or after treatment
- Pain, tension, and changes in posture after surgery or reconstruction
- Limited range of motion in the shoulders, neck, or chest
- Swelling and lymphatic congestion
- Neuropathy, restless legs, and sleep disturbance
- Anxiety, anticipatory fear before scans or treatments, and the “hyper-alert” feeling that doesn’t shut off
- The emotional weight of survivorship — navigating life after treatment when everyone else thinks you’re “done,” but your body and spirit are still catching up
We work gently, within what is safe for your body today, with room for both clinical intention and deep rest.
Comfort, Safety, and Collaboration
Your safety is non-negotiable. I adapt every session to your current treatment plan, lab values when needed, and your medical team’s recommendations. Positioning, bolstering, pressure, and techniques are chosen to protect fragile tissues, ports, surgical sites, lymphedema risk areas, and any areas that feel vulnerable.
If you are living with or at risk for lymphedema, my manual lymphatic drainage training allows me to work with your lymph system in a way that supports flow without overloading it. We avoid contraindicated areas and directions of stroke and stay within oncology-safe timing and pressure.
With your permission, I can collaborate with your oncology team, surgeon, or other providers to make sure our work supports your overall care plan. You remain in charge of what is shared and with whom.
